Shrub 0.6–2(–3) m. tall, with slender branched stems; young shoots square, ridged, pubescent with spreading or upwardly directed white hairs and with scattered shorter hairs and glands.. Leaves opposite, ovate-elliptic, (0.6–)1.5–5.5 cm. long, (0.3–)0.5–2.5 cm. wide, ± rounded to subacute at the apex, cuneate at the base, rather coarsely crenate-serrate, with scattered short and long pubescence above and gland-dots but not scabrid, usually rather sparsely to fairly densely pubescent beneath and with the very dense orange-red or greenish yellow glands not obscured; petiole 2–8 mm. long.. Inflorescences strobiliform, hop-like, ± globose, 0.5–1.5 cm. long and wide, axillary at leafy and leafless nodes, sometimes almost sessile but peduncle can be 0.3–2.2 cm. long; bracts ± leafy, ovate-triangular to lanceolate, 0.5–1.1 cm. long, 3–7 mm. wide, acute to long attenuate-acuminate at the apex, rounded to cordate at the base, with numerous rather long white marginal cilia, adpressed pubescent and glandular, the apices comose at top of inflorescence.. Calyx scarcely 1 mm. long, obscurely 2-lobed, white-pubescent.. Corolla white, greenish white or cream; tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 2.5–3 mm. long, pubescent and glandular above; limb ± 3 mm. wide, the upper lip 1.5–2 mm. long and wide and lobes of lower lip 1–1.5 mm. long and wide, pulverulent within.. Fruit ± globose, drupaceous, 2–2.5 mm. diameter at first, invested in remains of the membranous calyx, wrinkled in dry state.
