Leaves mostly in a rosette, the cauline leaves few and smaller than the basal ones, glaucous, sessile, narrowly elliptic in outline, pinnatifid, 7–21 cm long, 0.5–2.5 cm wide (up to 5 cm wide including the lobes), base gradually narrowed (to semi-amplexicaul in the cauline leaves), margins denticulate and lobed with deltoid, often retrorse lobes to 15 mm long, apex acute, glabrous.. Capitula several–15 per flowering stem, solitary or few together and subsessile at the nodes or terminal in a spike or panicle; involucre cylindrical, 11–15 mm long; phyllaries ovate to lanceolate, extending down the stalk, 2–14 mm long, acute or obtuse, with membranous margins, glabrous.. Florets ± 20; corolla yellow, tube ± 9 mm long, ligule 7–8 mm long, 1.5–2.2 mm wide.. Achenes cylindric and black (inner) to slightly compressed and pale brown (outer), 3–4 mm long, ribbed, glabrous; pappus white, 8–10 mm long, of mixed setae and fine hairs.
