Leaves single along stem and clustered at ends of branches, terete, acute, 9-20 mm long; sheath translucent, 4-7 mm long, the margin divided into coarse fimbriae. Inflorescences both terminal and axillary; terminal inflorescence 4-8-flowered, on slender peduncle 12-30 mm long; axillary infloresences small, 3-4-flowered, often sessile; outer inflorescence bracts 5, 3-4 mm long, red-brown; inner bracts 1 per flower, 2-3 mm long, translucent, fimbriate. Sepals ±4 mm long, red-brown. Petals 3-4 mm long, white. Stamens 2.5-3.5 mm long. Ovules 3.
