Spreading, slender or tufted stoloniferous herb to 25 cm tall. Leaves linear, erect, pungent, 27-37 mm long; sheath translucent, 10-13 mm long, the margins finely divided. Inflorescence 17-24-flowered, cup-shaped; peduncle 3-10 cm long; outer bracts numerous in 3 distinct series, the lowermost obovate, 2-3 mm long, the second ±5 mm long, the uppermost linear-obovate, acute, 7-9 mm long, central area dark brown to almost black; inner bracts ±5 mm long, white or translucent, fimbriate. Flowers white. Sepals 6-7 mm long. Petals cupular, 3-4 mm long. Stamens 2-3 mm long. Ovules 9.
