Tufted herb to 7 cm tall. Leaves crowded, usually decurved, pungent, 5-15 mm long; sheath 4-7 mm long, with long bristles at apex. Inflorescence 19-25-flowered; peduncle erect, 3.5-11 cm long; outer bracts in 3 or 4 series, the lowermost ovate, obtuse, ±3 mm long, brown with dark brown central stripe, the second 5 mm long, the uppermost 7-8 mm long; inner bracts 5-7 mm long, translucent, with margins finely fimbriate. Flowers white. Sepals 6-7 mm long. Petals cupular, ±3 mm long. Stamens 2-3 mm long. Ovules 9-12.
