Species

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae > Leobordea

Characteristics

Annual, with a short stem, soon developing numerous slender radiating procumbent to prostrate branches up to 10-50 cm long, pilose. Leaves opposite at flowering nodes, otherwise alternate, 3-foliolate, often larger on initial stem and its more distal branches; leaflets 8-25(35) x 1.5-4(6) mm, oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, slightly apiculate, subglabrous to pilose above, pilose beneath; petiole shorter to markedly longer than the leaflets; stipules single at a node, 5-10 x 3-10 mm, broadly ovate to oblate, often somewhat acuminate, several-nerved from the base. Flowers several to numerous, produced successively in a cluster at the nodes, sessile, subtended by the conspicuous leaf-like stipules; bracts 3-4 mm long, linear; bracteoles absent. Calyx 5-7 mm long, pilose; upper and lateral lobes joined slightly higher, c. 3 mm long, subulate. Standard yellow, shorter than the keel and scarcely exceeding the calyx, narrowly elliptic-ovate, extensively pubescent outside; wings a little shorter than the standard; keel 6-7 mm long, narrow, slightly upcurved to the obtuse reddish tip, extensively pubescent. Pods 3-6 x 1.5-2 mm, narrowly oblong-obovoid to oblong-elliptic, often somewhat tapered to the base, slightly downcurved at the tip, pubescent distally, c. 8-seeded, but some seeds often aborted. Seeds 1 mm long, oblique-cordiform, smooth, pale brown.
