Characteristics

Deciduous, terrestrial, tuberous orchids growing in clonal colonies. Leaf single or in pairs, ground-hugging, smooth, glabrous, green with red veins. Racemes 1–3-flowered from leaf base; peduncle thin, glabrous. Flowers resupinate, unusual shape, dull-coloured, dominated by labellum. Dorsal sepal free, shorter than lateral sepals, incurved and strongly hooding column. Lateral sepals free, decurved close to ovary. Petals free, erect, thin, club-shaped, densely glandular. Labellum hinged by small claw to column base, passively mobile. Labellum lamina obscurely 3-lobed, wider than long, hairy; lateral margins deeply cut into narrow, densely glandular, fringed, tooth-like lobes. Callus obscure, of a few short ridges. Column narrow, incurved. Pollinia 4, yellow, mealy, no viscidium.
