Leaves of female plants 1.4 cm long, 6 mm broad, male plants slightly smaller, obovate, rounded at the apex with a small immersed mucro, narrowed to the base, thick, coriaceous, glabrous, sub-imbricate; young leaves, on basal shoots, 1.25 cm long, 3.5 mm broad, oblanceolate, obtuse with a blunt red mucro, narrowed to the base, shaggy pubescent, ciliate. Involucral leaves similar to the stem leaves, but crowded, spreading and forming a neat rosette. Male inflorescence 1 cm long, 1.7 cm dia., solitary, terminal, hemispherical giving off a yeasty or a faint honey-like smell. Basal bracts 6 mm long, 2.5 mm broad, about 51 cm number, lanceolate, sparsely pubescent, long ciliate. Floral bract 2.5 mm long, 0.8 mm broad, lanceolate, pubescent. Floral bud 6 mm long, bent, short-straggly pubescent, yellow above, apex not. Swollen. Perianth tube 3 mm long, pubescent. Claw 2.2 mm long, pubescent. Limb 1.3 mm long, pubescent. Anthers 1 mm long, curled upwards. Pollen triangular in polar view with somewhat hollow sides 38 µ long, polar depth 20µ. Stigma abortive, 1 mm long, clavate, acting as a pollen presenter. Style 5.3 mm long, narrower above, with silky pubescence 2 mm long at the base. Hypogynous scales 2 mm long, filiform. Nectar seen at the throat of the perianth tube. Receptacle 5 mm long, 3.5 mm dia., clavate. Female inflorescence 9 mm long, 8 mm dia., globose, with florets arranged in 5 spirals of about 4. Basal bracts 3.5 mm long, 2 mm broad, lanceolate, acute, brown, glabrous or very sparsely short-pubescent, ciliate, about 20 cm number. Floral bract 3.5 mm long, 3.5 mm broad, orbicular with a narrow scar at the base, densely villous below, becoming very shortly and sparsely pubescent towards the obtuse apex. Floral bud 4 mm long, narrowing to the apex, short-pubescent, green. Perianth segments imbricated forming a tube 3.5 mm long, glabrous below, membranous. Claw 1.5 mm long, stout, recurved 90° or more, pubescent. Limb 0.8 mm long, pubescent below, glabrous and hooked at the apex. Staminode 0.3 mm long, absent or vestigal in the anterior segment. Ovary 1 mm long, very densely clothed with silky white hairs 3.5 mm long. Style 3.5 mm long, glabrous, thickened near the apex. Stigma 0.5 mm broad, somewhat cleft, terminal. Hypogynous scales 2.5 mm long, acicular, yellow. Nectar seen above the hypogynous scales. Receptacle 5 mm long, 1.5 mm dia., cylindrical. Mature female head dehiscent, 1.5 cm dia., globose, with bracts glabrescent above and silky villous below. Fruit a nut, 4.3 mm long, 3 mm dia., obovoid, apiculate, villous, keeled on the inside.
