Involucral leaves inconspicuous, similar to the new stem leaves, crowded, few in number, broader below. Male inflorescence 9 mm long, 1.2 cm diam., solitary at the ends of numerous branchlets, apex flattened, odourless. Basal bracts variable in size and shape, about 6 mm long, 3 mm wide, lanceolate at first, the inner much broadened above, sparsely pubescent, strongly ciliate, brown, about 46 cm number, clasping the sides of the inflorescence. Floral bracts 5 mm long, 0.5 mm broad, linear, coloured and pubescent above. Floral bud 7 mm long, pubescent. Perianth tube 4 mm long, pubescent above. Claw 1 mm long, pubescent, recurved 90°. Limb 2 mm long, linear, pubescent. Anthers 1.5 mm long, erect. Pollen triangular in polar view with sides 38p long, polar depth 18µ. Stigma abortive, 1.5 mm long, clavate, sometimes deeply cleft, acting as a pollen pre. Senter. Style 5 mm long, filiform, glabrous. Hypogynous scales absent. Nectar absent. Receptacle 3 mm long, 1.5 mm diam., clavate. Female inflorescence 1.2 cm long, 1 cm diam., globose, solitary, terminal, closely imbricated on all sides by the involucral leaves and by the basal bracts, with the six florets appearing at the apex, odourless. Basal bracts variable in size, about 1 cm long, 4.5 mm broad, about 56 cm number, lanceolate, purplish brown, densely short-pubescent, ciliate, tufted at the apex. Floral bracts 8 mm long, 7 mm broad, ovoid, densely silky villous in the lower two thirds, abruptly short-pubescent above, ciliate, tufted at the obtuse apex. Floral bud 5 mm long, pubescent. Perianth tube 5 mm long, narrow, densely pubescent. Claw 2 mm long, pubescent. Limb 1.5 mm long, pubescent, anterior limb absent. Staminodes 0.8 mm long, linear, anterior absent. Ovary 1 mm long, ovoid, sparsly short-pubescent. Style 8 mm long, glabrous, filiform, narrower below. Stigma 1.5 mm long, lateral, anterior surface deeply grooved. Hypogynous scales absent. Nectar absent. Receptacle 5 mm long, 2 mm diam., narrowly conical. Mature female head dehiscent, 2 cm diam., globose, with bracts densely silky pubescent, their margins thinly pubescent, few in number. Fruit a nut 7 mm long, 7 mm broad, 4.5 mm thick, with a small point at the apex, laterally sparsely pubescent, pale greyish with brown mottling.
