Characteristics

Shrubs 1 m tall (up to 2 m when very old amongst introduced Acacias! erect, dense, developed from a single stem at ground level. Branches ereci slender, glabrescent. Leaves up to 1 cm long, 3.5 mm broad, oblanceolatel spathulate, obtuse with a blunt callus, narrowed to the base, glabrous, thick, nerveless, subimbricate, erect; new leaves on adult plants ciliate and velvet! pubescent; leaves of juvenile plants much larger. Involucral leaves more crowded, few in number, inconspicuous. Male inflorescence 9 mm long, 16 mm diam., globose, solitary, terminal, giving off a faint pleasant smell. Basal bracts varying, 4.5 mm long, 1.5 mm broad, 36-51 cm number, lanceolate, acute! ciliate. Floral bract 1.5-2.2 mm long, 0.3-0.6 mm broad, linear, ciliate and densely pubescent above. Floral bud 4-5 mm long, arched, apex glabrous anl yellow, short-pubescent below. Perianth tube 2.2-2.8 mm long, sparsely shora pubescent. Claw 2 mm long, recurved 180°, sparsely pubescent. Limb 1 mrB long, spathulate concave, hooked, glabrous above. Anther 0.6 mm long, linear] somewhat curled upwards. Pollen triangular in polar view with sides 35 µlondl polar depth 20µ. Stigma abortive, 0.6 mm long, broadly clavate, entire, actinl as a pollen presenter. Style 3.3-4.3 mm long, narrower above, very sparsell pubescent below. Hypogynous scales 1.5 mm long, filiform, pale. Nectar not seen. Receptacle 5 mm long, 3.3 mm diam., globose or broadll clavate. Female inflorescence 1.1 cm diam., globose, solitary, terminal, giving off a faint pleasant smell. Basal bracts similar to the male, the inner becomin! broader, about 58 cm number. Floral bracts 2.5-3.5 mm long, 3.8-4.5 mm broad] broadly oval with a small blunt apex, ciliate, densely pubescent, not connata Floral bud 4-5 mm long, apex yellow and glabrous, short-pubescent belovJ slightly broadened, glabrous and bent at the base. Perianth loosely imbricate! forming a tube 3-3.5 mm long, transversely compressed, pubescent, glabroul and membraneous below. Claw 1.5-2 mm long, recurved 90°, pubescent. Limb 0.8 mm long, hollow, hooked, apex glabrous. Staminode 0.5 mm long, curved upwards, anterior occasionally absent. Ovary 1 mm long, ovoid, very densely pubescent with hairs about 3 mm long. Style 3.5-4 mm long, broader above, filiform, glabrous. Stigma 0.6 mm broad, terminal-oblique, somewhat cleft. Hypogynous scales 0.7-1 mm long, acicular, pale. Nectar not seen. Receptacle 7 mm long, 3 mm diam., conical. Mature female head indehiscent, 1.6-1.9 cm diam., globose, with bracts somewhat retuse, glabrescent above, densely pubescent below. Fruit a nutlet, 3-4 mm long, 2.5-3 mm broad, obovate, apicu-late, adaxially ridged, villous, dusky, mottled.
