Tall, with numerous linear alternate lvs and usually one erect fl; tep widely spreading, clawed, conspicuously papillose toward the base within; 2n=24. Native of Europe, occasionally escaped from cult. in the ne. part of our range. June, July.

A bulb herb. It grows 20-90 cm tall. The bulbs are oval and have pointed scales. The leaves are sword shaped and 10 cm long. The flowering shoot has 1-5 flowers. The flowers can be 4-6 cm long. They are bright yellow-orange with red dots.
