Species

Pteridophytes > Polypodiales > Lindsaeaceae > Lindsaea

Characteristics

Rhizome long-scandent, castaneous; scales triangular, narrowly triangular, or lanceolate, with a very short uniseriate apex, the larger ones 2.5-3.5 mm long. Leaves one to a few cm apart, issuing under a small angle; petioles stramineous to pale brown with dark base, quadrangular, the faces not sulcate. Lamina linear, simply pinnate, narrowed at both ends, or sometimes little narrowed at the base; rachis stramineous, quadrangular, adaxially at the base ± convex, the pinnules inserted below the edges, upwards sulcate, bearing the pinnules at its edges. Pinnules numerous, herbaceous, elongate-triangular, ligulate, or 1/4-elliptic, the upper ones gradually and strongly reduced, a few confluent into a pinnatifid leaf-apex. Upper margin shallowly incised. Juvenile plants with deeply (bi)pinnatifid, thin pinnules, sterile; but in transitional cases leaves may be fertile in the upper part and bear sterile pinnules of the juvenile shape in the basal part. Veins immersed free, once or twice forked. Sori interrupted. Spores pale brown, trilete, smooth, c. 22-26 μ.
More
Stipe usually less than 1 cm long. Pinnules 15–28 mm long, 4–8 mm wide; outer margin incised to a little below the level of the indusium or considerably deeper; abaxial margin straight to slightly concave. Sori mostly on a single vein, or spanning 2 veins; indusium with a strongly concave base; sporangia spreading laterally when mature.
Stipe to a few centimetres long. Pinnules 16-30 mm long, 5–9 mm wide; outer margin incised to considerably below the level of the indusium; abaxial margin straight to slightly concave or convex. Sori on 1–2 (–4) vein endings; indusium slightly concave to straight; sporangia not spreading laterally when mature.
Stipe to several centimetres long. Pinnules 16–24 (–33) mm long, 5–7 mm wide; outer margin incised to the level of the indusium or slightly deeper; abaxial margin rather deeply concave. Sori on 1–2 vein endings; indusium with a weakly concave to ±straight base; sporangia not spreading laterally when mature.
