Characteristics

Terrestrial herb with creeping rhizome 1–2 mm. in diameter and flexuose roots.. Pseudobulbs 2–3 mm. apart on the rhizome, with 2–3 scarious sheathing leaves up to 3.5 cm. long, up to 2.5 cm. high and 1 cm. in diameter, ovoid, green when young, later becoming yellowish and very wrinkled, monophyllous and bearing one terminal inflorescence.. Leaf light or dark green, coriaceous, jointed at the base, up to 16 cm. long and 1.6 cm. wide (usually 8–10 × 1 cm.), widest near the apex and gradually tapering to a narrow base, apex rounded to acute.. Scape usually slightly taller than the leaf, up to 18 cm. long, laterally flattened, and slightly winged below the inflorescence.. Inflorescence up to ± 8 cm. (usually ± 4 cm.) long, with up to 40 very small fairly densely arranged flowers; bracts 3 mm. long, acuminate.. Pedicel plus ovary up to 5 mm. long.. Column slightly arcuate, 0.8-1.2 mm, apex dilated. Capsule subellipsoid, 3-4 × ca. 3 mm; fruiting pedicel 4-5 mm. Fl. Jun-Oct, fr. Oct-Nov. 2n = 40.
