Characteristics

Terrestrial herb with erect shoots arising close together from a shallowly buried rhizome 1.5–2 mm. in diameter.. Pseudobulbs green, fleshy, up to 9 cm. long and 3 mm. in diameter, with 3–4 small sheathing leaves and 2 or 3 large foliage leaves at the apex.. Sheathing leaves increasing in length up the pseudobulb to 3 cm., partially or completely covering it, becoming fibrous with age; foliage leaves membranous, deep green, cordate, with entire margins sometimes crisped, up to 6 cm. long and 5 cm. wide; petioles 2–3 cm. long, widening abruptly near the base to encircle the pseudobulb; a smaller foliage leaf often subtends the terminal inflorescence.. Inflorescence shorter than, or equalling, the foliage leaves, up to 5-flowered, subumbellate; bracts 2–4 mm. long, acuminate.. Pedicel and ovary up to 1.5 cm. long.. Tepals purple.. Dorsal sepal 9 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, tapering gradually towards the acute apex, and narrowing abruptly at the base; lateral sepals joined almost to the apices, but may split further apart; united part 6 mm. wide, 7 mm. long, free apices rounded, acute.. Petals linear, 8 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, rounded at the apices.. Lip fleshy, with a small bilobed callus at the base, suborbicular, 2-lobed ± with an apiculum between, sides folded upwards at the base, main blade almost flat, margins entire at the base, changing abruptly to deeply toothed around the lobes. Lip white or yellow with purple veins.. Column 3.5 mm. long, much curved, with 2 very wide wings extending from base to apex.
