Characteristics

Perennial, creeping herb. Stems many, radiating from a strong perennial taproot, usually forming a mat, rooting at nodes. Leaves trifoliolate; terminal leaflet somewhat larger than lateral ones, narrowly elliptic-oblong to slightly obovate, subglabrous, 8-40 x 3-12 mm; stipules paired, one smaller than the other. Flowers: inflorescences leaf-opposed, often on short shoots, erect, 8-24-flowered; bracteoles present; lateral calyx lobes broadly triangular, short, obtuse; corolla bright yellowish orange. Pods plicate, with 3-5 lateral folds, 7-10 x 2.54.0 mm.
