Characteristics

Herbs. Leaves alternate or subopposite, dentate. Capitula solitary or few together in terminal clusters, disciform; receptacle slightly cup-shaped, the outer florets inserted on the rim, the inner lower down. Outer florets female, filiform, 2–3-dentate; inner florets hermaphrodite, many, 3–5-lobed, anthers minutely tailed; style undivided or with a minute notch, slightly capitate, with tubercle-based hairs. Achenes cylindrical, 5–10-ribbed, glandular or sparsely hairy; pappus absent or present in the inner florets
