Characteristics

Evergreen trees, ca. 18 m tall. Young branchlets gray-yellow puberulent and becoming glabrous. Leaves alternate; petiole 1.2-1.5 cm, hairy like branchlets; leaf blade elliptic, 11.5-17 × 4-6 cm, glabrous on both surfaces, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, transverse veinlets conspicuously reticulate on both surfaces, base broadly cuneate or rotund, apex acuminate or shortly acute. Flowers not seen. Fruiting inflorescence umbellate, solitary or 2, lateral; peduncle 1-1.5 cm, very stout, with 1-3 fruits. Fruit ellipsoid, 2-2.5 × 1.3-1.5 cm, black at maturity, seated on deeply cup-shaped perianth tube, with many rotund lenticels outside, margin 3-or 4-lobed, lobes large and irregular; fruiting pedicel 1-1.5 cm, very stout. Fr. May-Jun.
