Evergreen trees, 8-30 m tall, up to 60 cm d.b.h. Young branchlets gray-yellow pubescent and becoming glabrous. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm, hairy like young branchlets; leaf blade oblong, elliptic, or ovate-elliptic, 12-26 × 4.5-11.5 cm, glaucous and puberulent or along veins pubescent and becoming glabrous abaxially, glabrous or puberulent at base of midrib adaxially, pinninerved, lateral veins 5 pairs, conspicuously reticulate-veined abaxially, base cuneate or rounded-obtuse, apex acuminate, abruptly acute, or obtuse. Umbel in cluster of 2-5 on short branchlets, axillary, male umbel 5-or 6-flowered; peduncle 6-10 mm, densely pubescent. Male flowers: pedicel ca. 2 mm; perianth segments 6, ovate or broadly ovate; fertile stamens 9-12; filaments densely yellow pubescent, of 3rd whorls each with 2 shortly stipitate rounded-cordate glands at base; rudimentary pistil ovoid, glabrous. Fruit ca. 2.5 × 1.5 cm, almost entirely enclosed in perianth tube when young, exserted from perianth tube at maturity; perianth tube cup-shaped; fruiting pedicel 1-1.5 cm, gradually thickened toward apex. Fl. May, fr. Oct-Nov.
