Characteristics

Trunk to 15 m tall, 20–50 cm diam., pale grey; base with prominent petiole stubs, smooth above. Leaves 25–30 in a rigid dense crown; petiole 90–130 cm long, 25–30 mm wide, smooth or with marginal spines; leaf blade nearly circular, 90–140 cm long, rigid, pale green to glaucous, waxy, dull, abaxially glabrous, divided for more than 1/2 its length; segments 50–66, rigid, deeply bifurcate, with attenuate lobes. Inflorescence 150–270 cm long, branched to 3 orders; bracts glabrous to sparsely scaly; rachillae minutely warty. Flowers solitary or in pairs, cylindric, cream to yellowish; sepals triangular, 0.8–1 mm long, acute; petals triangular, 2–3 mm long, acute to mucronate; stamens c. 2 mm long. Fruit globose, 25–40 mm diam., dark brown. Seed globose, 14–20 mm diam.
