Characteristics

Trunk to 18 m tall, 25–35 cm diam., grey-brown; base with persistent petiole stubs. Leaves 35–45 in an open rounded crown; petiole 150–200 cm long, 30–35 mm wide, densely floccose, with sharp thorns on basal margins; leaf blade circular, 130–190 cm long, coriaceous, pale green to glaucous, strongly pruinose, waxy, abaxially glabrous, divided for c. 1/2 its length; segments 70–92, pendulous distally, deeply bifurcate, with acuminate-attenuate lobes. Inflorescence 140–220 cm long, branched to 4 orders; bracts and rachillae densely lanuginose. Flowers solitary or in pairs, funnel-shaped, cream; sepals narrowly triangular, c. 1.5 mm long, acuminate to aristate, fleshy; petals triangular, 2.8–3 mm long, acute, thick; stamens c. 2 mm long. Fruit globose, 25–36 mm diam., purple-brown to black. Seed globose, 18–22 mm long.
