Characteristics

Trunk to 35 m tall, 25–40 cm diam., grey; base with prominent petiole stubs, smooth above. Leaves 35–50 in an open to dense crown; petiole 170–200 cm long, 20–26 mm wide, smooth or with small marginal thorns; leaf blade ±circular, 160–190 cm long, coriaceous, dark green, glossy, apically glabrous, divided to ±2/3 its length; segments 68–80, drooping distally, deeply bifurcate, with acute lobes. Inflorescence 150–200 cm long, branched to 4 orders; bracts scaly; rachillae glabrous to papillose. Flowers solitary or in sympodial clusters of 2–4, funnel-shaped, yellow; sepals triangular, c. 1.5 mm long, subacute, fleshy; petals broadly ovate, 2–2.2 mm long, acute, thick; stamens c. 1.6 mm long. Fruit globose, 13–20 mm diam., glossy, black. Seed globose, 10–12 mm diam.
