Characteristics

Perennial, decumbent herb.. Stems up to 0.5 m. long, rooting at lower nodes, with ascending flowering shoots, glabrous or sparsely pubescent.. Leaves with lamina elliptic to suborbicular, (5–)8–15 mm. long, (4–)7–15 mm. wide, acute at the apex, ± cuneate at the base, prominently dentate or doubly dentate, appressed pubescent above, less densely so or glabrous beneath; petiole 1.5–10 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent.. Flowers scattered in upper leaf-axils; pedicels 15–50 mm. long, glabrous or shortly pubescent; bracteoles at or near the base of the pedicel or rarely near the middle, linear, 0.8–6 mm. long.. Hypanthium obconical, glabrous or shortly pubescent.. Calyx-lobes 1.2–5 mm. long, entire or with a single tooth at the margin, ± ciliate.. Corolla 10–18 mm. long, blue with whitish markings and 2 bumps in the mouth of the throat, split on the back to 0.6–2 mm. from the base, glabrous or papillose at the base outside, pubescent inside on the bottom of the tube.. Filaments connate above, the 2 anterior ones pubescent at the base, all attached to the corolla-tube at the base.. Anther-tube 1.6–2.2 mm. long, pubescent on the back; 2 lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.. Ovary semi-inferior.. Capsule glabrous or shortly pubescent, with 2 valves 1.2–2 mm. long, inferior part of capsule 2–7 mm. long.. Seeds elliptic in outline, somewhat compressed, 0.55–0.6 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
