Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Campanulaceae > Lobelia

Characteristics

Annual ± erect herb, 8–30 cm. tall.. Stem not or sparsely branched, triangular with broadly winged edges, glabrous or with a few short and stout hairs.. Leaves 7–16 mm. long, 2–5 mm. wide, suborbicular to elliptic at the base of the plant, gradually narrowing upwards to the linear-oblong bracts, obtuse to acute, denticulate, glabrous or with a few short stout hairs mainly on midvein beneath.. Flowers in lax leafy racemes; pedicels 4–7 mm. long, glabrous, papillose or with a few short hairs; bracteoles linear, 0.4–0.5 mm. long, at or near base of pedicel.. Hypanthium subglobose, 8–10-nerved, glabrous or with short retrorse hairs.. Calyx-lobes narrowly triangular, erect, 1.4–2.8 mm. long, entire, glabrous or with a few short hairs on the midvein outside.. Corolla 3.5–4.5 mm. long, blue with darker markings and 2 bumps in the mouth of the tube, split practically to the base on the back, pubescent inside on the bottom of the tube.. Filaments connate for most of their length, the 2 lower pubescent below, all attached to the corolla-tube at the base.. Anther-tube ± 0.8 mm. long, sparsely and shortly pubescent on the back of the upper thecae; 2 lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.. Ovary semi-inferior.. Capsule subglobose, 8–10-nerved, with 2 valves ± 1 mm. long, inferior part of capsule 2–2.5 mm. long.. Seeds elliptic-oblong in outline, somewhat compressed, 0.4–0.45 mm. long, almost smooth, brown.
