Characteristics

Perennial, prostrate or decumbent herb.. Stems up to several dm. long, rooting at least at the lower nodes, glabrous or pubescent.. Leaves with lamina broadly ovate to suborbicular, 8–20 mm. long, 6–20 mm. wide, acute to subacute at the apex, subcordate to broadly cuneate at the base, dentate usually with fairly broad and blunt teeth, ± pubescent above, glabrous beneath; petiole 2–15 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent.. Flowers scattered in leaf-axils; pedicels 5–16(–27) mm. long, glabrous or pubescent; bracteoles at the base of the pedicel, linear, 0.5–1 mm. long.. Hypanthium obconical, glabrous or pubescent.. Calyx-lobes 3–(–5) mm. long, entire, glabrous or ciliate.. Corolla 8–10.5 mm. long, blue with 2 whitish bumps in the mouth of the tube, split on the back to 0.5–1 mm. from the base, practically glabrous outside, pubescent inside at the bottom of the tube.. Filaments connate above, at least the 2 anterior ones pubescent at the base, all attached to the corolla-tube at the base.. Anther-tube 1.2–1.6 mm. long, hairy on the back; 2 lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.. Ovary subinferior.. Capsule glabrous or pubescent, with 2 ± distinct valves 1–1.5 mm. long, inferior part of capsule 3.5–7 mm. long, ± oblong-obconical.. Seeds elliptic in outline, somewhat compressed, 0.5–0.6 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
