Plant 0.8–5 m. high in flower, suckering from the base.. Stem unbranched, hollow, with erect inflorescence.. Leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 16–34 cm. long, 2–8.5 cm. wide, rounded to acute at the apex, ± densely pubescent on both surfaces especially towards base above, rarely glabrous; margin entire; venation with numerous main lateral nerves arising at an angle of ± 30° to the midrib distal to the phyllodic leaf-base with ± parallel venation.. Inflorescence 0.5–3 m. tall, dense, cylindrical; pedicels 7–12 mm. long, glabrous, with 2 bracteoles inserted near the middle; bracts exceeding the flowers, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 65–110 mm. long, acute to acuminate at the apex, ciliate towards the base.. Hypanthium obovoid to hemispherical, truncate at the base, 10-nerved, usually glabrous.. Calyx-lobes narrowly triangular, 7–16(–28) mm. long, entire.. Corolla (24–)30–50 mm. long, blue to blue-violet, split to the base on the back; petals united or splitting into lobes.. Filaments connate for most of their length, free from corolla.. Anther-tube 7–11 mm. long; 2 lower anthers apically barbate, otherwise glabrous or pubescent on the back.. Ovary subinferior.. Capsule subspherical, 14–20 mm. long, 10-nerved, with 2 valves.. Seeds elliptic-reniform in outline, compressed, winged on one side, 1.5–2 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
