Characteristics

Perennial decumbent herb.. Stems up to at least 50 cm. long, narrowly winged, sparsely and shortly pubescent.. Leaves 8–17 mm. long, 1.5–5 mm. wide, linear to narrowly elliptic or, the lower ones, ovate, acute to subacute at the apex, attenuate at the base, with a petiole 0.5–2 mm. long, sparsely crenate-serrate and with revolute margins, glabrous, or shortly pubescent above particularly along the margins.. Flowers few, scattered in the upper leaf-axils; pedicels 10–30 mm. long, glabrous, longer than bracts; bracteoles 0.6–1.2 mm. long, at the base of the pedicel, ciliate at the apex.. Hypanthium obconical, glabrous.. Calyx-lobes narrowly triangular, 4–5 mm. long, entire, glabrous.. Corolla 20–25 mm. long, blue, split practically to the base on the back, subglabrous inside the tube and on the outside.. Filaments subglabrous, attached to the corolla-tube at the base.. Anther-tube 2–2.5 mm. long, shortly pubescent on the back; 2 lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.. Ovary semisuperior.. Capsule ± obovoid, glabrous with prominent valves ± 2 mm. long, somewhat shorter than the inferior part of the capsule.. Seeds elliptic in outline, compressed, 0.6–0.7 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
