Leaves up to 7–20 x 6–12 mm., broadly ovate to elliptic, gradually narrowing upwards, usually acute at the apex, gradually or abruptly narrowing below into a petiole–like base, serrate or dentate with usually acute teeth, at least lower leaves sparsely to densely pubescent on both sides; venation prominent beneath.
Flowers in lax terminal and axillary leafy racemes; pedicels up to 5–10(13) mm. long, glabrous, finely papillose or pubescent; upper bracts lanceolate to ovate or elliptic, equalling or longer than pedicels; bracteoles c. 0·2 mm. long, at the base of the pedicel.
Corolla 2·8–4 mm. long, pale blue or white, usually with darker markings, split to 0·1–0·2 mm. from the base on the back, glabrous or with a few hairs on the lobes outside, pubescent inside on the bottom of the tube.
Calyx–lobes subulate, erect or somewhat spreading, 1·6–3·2 mm. long, with one or two pairs of teeth or rarely only a single tooth at the margin, glabrous or ± pubescent.
Anther–tube 0·6–0·8 mm. long, glabrous or with a few short hairs on the back; the two lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.
Capsule obovoid to narrowly obconical, c. 8–nerved, with 2 valves ± 1 mm. long, inferior part of capsule 3–5 mm. long.
Filaments linear, at least the two lower pubescent below, attached to the corolla–tube at the base.
Stem sparsely to much branched, triangular and rather broadly winged, sparsely to densely hirsute.
Seeds broadly elliptic in outline, compressed, 0·35–0·45 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
Hypanthium obovoid to obconical, c. 8–nerved, glabrous or rarely pubescent.
Annual erect or ascending herb, 3–15(35) cm. tall.
Ovary subinferior.
