Characteristics

Flowers in lax terminal and axillary leafy racemes; pedicels up to 5–8 mm. long, usually upcurved near the apex in fruit, finely papillose and sometimes with a few hairs as well; upper bracts linear or lanceolate, equalling or shorter than pedicels; bracteoles ± 0–4 mm. long, linear, at or near the base of the pedicel.

Leaves up to 10–30 x 7–18 mm., broadly ovate, gradually narrowing upwards, obtuse to acute at the apex, abruptly narrowing below into a petiole–like base, serrate–dentate, ± pubescent on both sides; venation prominent beneath.
Corolla 3·5–4·5 mm. long, white or pale mauve, split to c. 0·6 mm. from the base on the back, short pubescent inside on the bottom of the tube, glabrous or with a few hairs on the lobes outside.
Anther–tube 0·6–0·8 mm. long, pubescent on the back; the two lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.
Stem sparsely to much branched, triangular and rather broadly winged, ± pubescent with long hairs.
Capsule obovoid, 8–nerved with 2 valves ± 1 mm. long, inferior part of capsule ± 2·5 mm. long.
Seeds elliptic in outline, somewhat compressed, ± 0·4 mm. long, very finely striate, brown.
Filaments linear, the two lower pubescent below, attached to the corolla–tube at the base.
Calyx–lobes subulate, erect, 1·8–2·5 mm. long, entire, ciliate.
Hypanthium obovoid, 8–nerved, pubescent.
