Characteristics

Prostrate herb, often mat-forming.. Stems up to several dm. long, rooting at the nodes, fairly robust, branching, glabrous.. Leaves with lamina ovate to suborbicular or reniform, up to (5–)8–13(–22) mm. long, (5–)8–13(–22) mm. wide, rounded or slightly emarginate at the apex, cordate to shortly cuneate at the base, very shallowly crenate to subentire, glabrous or pubescent above; petioles up to 5–15 mm. long, glabrous.. Flowers scattered in the leaf-axils, often appearing on short lateral branches; pedicels 2–16 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent; bracteoles at or near the base of the pedicel, linear, 1–2 mm. long.. Hypanthium subglobose to obconical, glabrous or pubescent.. Calyx-lobes (1.6–) 2–5 mm. long, entire, glabrous or occasionally with a few cilia.. Corolla 6–11.5 mm. long, blue with 2 longitudinal usually whitish crests in the mouth of the tube, split to the base on the back, glabrous outside, pubescent inside at the bottom of the tube.. Filaments glabrous, connate above and at least the anterior ones attached to the corolla-tube at the base.. Anther-tube ± 1.5 mm. long, shortly pubescent on the back; 2 lower anthers each with a tuft of hairs and a hyaline appendage at the apex.. Ovary inferior; style not broadened at the base.. Capsule glabrous or pubescent, thin-walled and indehiscent, without apical valves.. Seeds elliptic in outline, somewhat compressed, ± 0.5 mm. long, striate, brown.
