Corolla 14–18 mm. long, blue or pale blue with yellow markings, sometimes white, with two crests in the mouth of the tube, split to the base or almost so on the back, papillose on the inside of the tube, short pubescent on the outside usually with longer hairs on the midvein of the lobes.
More
Leaves usually numerous and rather densely set, up to 7–17 x 3–8 mm., narrowly to broadly elliptic, acute at the apex, sessile or narrowing at the base into a short petiole, glabrous, ciliate at the base, or occasionally hairy all over; margin incrassate, dentate–serrate.
Capsule cylindrical–obconical up to 17 mm. long, ± hairy, indistinctly nerved; pericarp rather tough in texture, finally tending to split longitudinally into 5–10, linear segments; apical valves 4, narrow, 2–3 mm. long.
Stamens 10–14 mm. long, almost free from the corolla; filaments connate for most of their length, pubescent at the base; anther–tube 2·9–3·2 mm. long, all anthers penicillate at the tip, otherwise glabrous or almost so.
Flowers solitary, irregularly scattered in leaf–axils, subsessile or on pedicels up to 5 mm. long, pubescent; bracteoles linear, 0·8–1·6 mm. long.
Stems radiating from a taproot, 4–50 cm. long, rooting at the nodes, ribbed or sulcate, densely hirsute to almost glabrous.
Seeds broadly elliptic to suborbicular in outline, somewhat compressed, 0·35–0·4 mm. long, finely striate, brown.
Calyx–lobes narrowly triangular, erect, 4–5 mm. long, shortly united at the base, entire, ciliate or ± hairy.
Hypanthium narrowly obconical, indistinctly nerved, finely pubescent to hirsute.
Perennial prostrate herb.
