Resprouting shrub, 60-100 cm high. Branches caulous, antrorse, herbaceous branches hairy, woody branches glabrescent. Leaves herbaceous, cauline to acroramous, transversely applanate, longitudinally straight, dead basal leaves not persistent, (20-)40-60(-65) x (2-)3-4(-5) mm, narrowly oblong, adaxially sparsely hairy, hairs more or less evenly spread (but often appearing glabrous), abaxially sparsely hairy, hairs more or less evenly spread, indumentum spinous, hairs similar in length, trichomes simple or sometimes pustular; leaf margin entire; apex acute; mid-vein abaxially prominent. Inflorescence of many flowered, compound cincinni, young flowering axis compact, flower buds loosely arranged to form a globose unit, spreading slightly in fruiting stage. Bracts (8-) 10-12(-14) x (1.0-)1.5-2.0(-3.0) mm, narrowly oblong. Flowers medium sized (anterior petals 17-30 mm long), more than three per cymule, funnel-shaped. Sepals narrowly oblong, half to slightly more than half of corolla length, similar in width, free, adaxially sparsely hairy, hairs more or less evenly spread across the whole surface, abaxially sparsely hairy, hairs more or less evenly spread across the whole surface; young apices incurved to applanate, brown trichomes on the adaxial surface present.
