Flowers medium-sized, regular to bilabiate; sepals lightly irregular, tubular, differentiated into herbaceous lobes and membranaceous sinuses, ruptur-ing in age; corolla salverform to funnelform, white, yellow, blue, or red; stamens inserted on the corolla tube, the filaments glabrous basally, the anthers dorsi-fixed, versatile; ovary ovoid, glabrous, attenuate to the style. Capsules about equal in length to the calyx, often enveloped by the bracts, loculicidal, 3-locular; seeds few per locule, small, flat or plump, broadly or narrowly winged.
