Erect shrub 0.3–1.5 (–2) m high; branches densely minutely hairy. Leaves with petiole to 1 mm long; lamina coriaceous, elliptic, oblong-elliptic to slightly obovate, rarely broadly elliptic, (6–) 7–14 mm long, 4–10 mm wide, l:w ratio 1.3–2.3 (–3.6), cuneate at base, slightly thickened on margin, rounded, rarely obtuse at apex; lower surface glabrous; upper surface densely, minutely papillose, with papillae extending to lower surface along margin. Inflorescence usually ±compact, occasionally 2-or 3-branched from base, many-flowered; bracts often foliose and then basal internodes elongated. Calyx 1.3–1.6 mm long. Corolla 2.5–4 mm long (M), 3–4 mm long (F); lobes 1–1.6 mm long; inner surface densely hairy from near base of tube to mouth, usually extending to halfway up lobes.
Rare or scattered in low open forest or woodland dominated by Eucalyptus, usually with a heath or tall open shrubland understorey; also recorded from Eucalyptus uncinata and E. redunca mallee communities and closed heaths with emergent Lambertia, on sandplains in sandy soils, frequently in lateritic sandy loams (hence gravelly), over clay subsoils, usually overlying quartz-rich sandstone.
