Erect shrub (0.5–) 1–2 m high; branches glabrous or minutely papillose. Leaves subsessile with petiole less than 0.8 mm long; lamina often subcoriaceous, broadly ovate to ovate, rarely narrowly ovate, 16–27 (–36) mm long, (6–) 7–20 (–26) mm wide, l:w ratio 1.2–2.5 (–3.5), rounded to slightly cuneate at base, slightly thickened and slightly recurved on margin, obtuse and sometimes mucronulate, glabrous or lower surface minutely papillose, with papillae often restricted to marginal region. Inflorescence usually foliose, many-flowered. Calyx 1–1.5 (–2) mm long. Corolla 2.5–3 mm long; lobes 1–1.5 mm long; inner surface glabrous except for a band of hairs restricted to thickened rim in mouth.
An occasional near-coastal species,occurring in shrubland, with a sparse mallee upper storey, or in open malleedominated by Eucalyptus incrassataand E. foecunda, less frequently inlow closed heath. It grows in alkaline sandy loams to heavier clay-rich soils,less often in sands, overlying limestone.
