Woody herb 100–150 cm tall, erect; rootstock woody; stems winged.. Leaves somewhat succulent, sessile, elliptic or slightly obovate, 4–10 cm long, 1–4 cm wide, cuneate-attenuate into a petioloid base, margins entire, apex obtuse, minutely apiculate, glabrous, somewhat 3-veined.. Capitula discoid, numerous in dense compound corymbs, the ultimate units ± umbelliform, bracteate, stalked, the bract-axils lanate; stalks of the individual capitula 7–17 mm long.. Involucre cylindrical, green, 8–14 mm long, 2–2.5 mm wide, glabrous; phyllaries 3(–4), green, spreading, obtuse and slightly bearded on the margins at the apex.. Florets 3–4, white, cream to orangish, exserted and exceeding the pappus at anthesis.. Achenes ellipsoid-cylindrical, 6–6.5 mm long, 3 mm wide, obtusely ribbed, swollen, shortly pubescent, glabrescent; pappus white, 8 mm long in flower, 12–20 mm long in fruit.
