Characteristics

Shrubs or trees, the young branches pubescent or rarely glabrous. Leaves gen-erally pubescent below, membranaceous to subcoriaceous, the margin entire or serrate; stipule scars at most half encircling the young stem. Inflorescences racemiform or paniculiform, solitary or as many as 5 per axil, always much longer than the petiole of the subtending leaf. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, bracteoles connate, the perianth monochlamydeous, connate at the base, equal, white to yellow-green. Fruit a small globose capsule, sessile.
