Characteristics

Dioecious, rigid, erect, thorny shrub, up to 1.5 m tall. Leaves succulent, in dense clusters, narrowly obovate to ovate, 9-13 mm long. Flowers functionally unisexual, tubular, 9-13 mm long, mauvish purple, lobes spreading, calyx up to 4 mm long, reaching one third up corolla tube, male flowers with minute style, female flowers with infertile anthers, style 10-12 mm long. Berries red, ellipsoidal, ± 5 mm long.
