Characteristics

Herbs annual, glabrous, 10--14 cm tall. Stems erect, scapiform. Basal leaves forming a rosette; petiole 0.5--1.5 cm, narrowly winged; leaf blade obovate to oblanceolate, 2--6 X 1.5--2.5 cm, base cuneate, apex obtuse to acute. Lowest stem leaves 1.5--3 cm, gradually reduced upward and replaced by bracts. Stem leaves few, alternate or sometimes subopposite, sessile, ovate to lanceolate, base rounded to cordate, apex acute to obtuse. Racemes terminal, 3--12 cm; bracts ovate to lanceolate, 5--7 mm, sessile. Pedicel 1--2.5 cm. Flowers heteromorphic. Calyx lobes lanceolate, 4--7 mm, apex subacuminate. Corolla pale purple, tubular, 0.8--1.3 cm, parted 1/3--1/2; lobes oblong, epunctate, apex obtuse. Pin flowers: stamens 7--10 mm; filaments connate basally into a 1--2 mm high ring; anthers dorsifixed; style to 8 mm. Thrum flowers: stamens ca. 2 mm; filaments connate basally into a thin ring; anthers dorsifixed; style 1--1.5 mm. Capsule subglobose, ca. 4 mm in diam. Fl. May-Jul.
