Characteristics

A small to medium sized tree. It grows 3-10 m high. The crown is dense. The crown almost reaches down to the ground. The young leaves and small branches are hairy. It loses its leaves during the year. The leaves are made up of two leaflets. Each leaflet is broadly oval and 2-3 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. It has prominent veins along its length. Flowers are white or red and 2-3 cm across. They have 5 petals. Two or three flowers occur together. The fruit are slightly curved flat pods. These are 5-10 cm long and 2-3 cm wide. They contain hard, flat, shining brown seeds.
