Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 8 m high, monoecious. Simple or semi-stellate trichomes interspersed with longer trichomes, densely pubescent on petioles and stipules, sparse to dense on laminae and stems. Stipules 0.25–0.75 mm long, caducous. Leaves alternate; petiole 0.8–3.7 cm long; lamina lanceolate or elliptic, 4.5–21 cm long, 1–7.5 cm wide, base cuneate, auriculate or not, margin dentate or entire, apex acute or acuminate, venation penninerved, lower surface gland-dotted. Male flowers racemose; bract c. 0.5 mm long, cup-shaped; stamens 30–40, filaments 1–1.5 mm long. Female flowers paniculate or cymose, ebracteate; ovary densely pubescent, bristly; styles 2, (6–) 12–15 mm long. Capsule 0.5–0.6 long, 0.8–1.2 mm wide, bilobed, pubescent, bristly.
