Characteristics

Shrub or tree to 10 (–28) m high, dioeceous. Minute trichomes glabrescent on stems, petioles, stipules and lamina midvein; with or without erect trichomes along petioles and lower lamina surface venation. Stipules 5.5–13 mm long, caducous. Leaves alternate, occasionally opposite; petiole 2.8–12 cm long; lamina ovate or broadly elliptic, 6–28 cm long, 5–12 cm wide, base rounded, minutely auriculate or not, margin entire or dentate, apex acuminate, venation penniveined, lower surface gland-dotted. Male flowers paniculate, sessile; bracts 2.5–5 mm long, digitate; stamens 5 (or 6), filaments 0.5–0.7 mm long. Female flowers racemose or paniculate, subsessile; bracts 2–4.5 mm long, digitate, caducous; ovary densely golden gland-dotted; styles 2, 1.5–2 mm long. Capsule 2.5–4.5 mm long, 6–10 mm wide, bilobed, golden-glandular, without bristles.

Environment

Grows in simple and complex notophyll and mesophyll vineforest and mesophyll palm forest in low lying areas and on swampy ground, generally at low altitudes of 5–30 m but may be found at up to 500 m alt.
