Characteristics

Rigid, brittle, intricately-branched shrub to 60 cm high, dioecious. Branchlets sparsely woolly. Leaves alternate, well-spaced or clustered on dwarf shoots, narrowly to broadly obovoid, 5–10 mm long, fleshy, sparsely appressed-pubescent. Flowers in pairs, closely woolly. Fruiting perianth thin-walled, pink to red when mature; tube convex, 10-ribbed, glabrous; wing simple, horizontal, thin, slightly crenulate, without a radial slit, to 18 mm diam. glabrous; upper perianth convex, sparsely woolly, deeply 5-lobed, 2 of the lobes with a pair of erect narrowly oblong processes, c. 6 mm high, 1 lobe with a single process, the other 2 lobes without processes.
