Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 5 m high; evergreen. Stems ± flattened towards apices, with dense, clear stellate hairs when young, glabrescent. Leaves opposite, not peltate; lamina elliptic, oblong or obovate, 35–170 mm long, 20–80 mm wide; base cordate or rounded; margins sinuate or weakly dentate with 8–15 teeth up to 4 mm long; tip acute, acuminate or rounded; venation penniveined, comprising 6–9 lateral veins per side of midrib and reticulate interlateral veins; upper surface without granular inclusions; lower surface pale green, interlateral venation well developed, with dense, clear stellate hairs and scattered, yellow sessile glands, glabrescent. Stamens 46–48. Fruit subglobose, 6–8 mm long, 11–13 mm diam., with scattered, clear stellate hairs and simple, echinate processes to 1 mm long, sessile glands absent.
