Characteristics

Small shrub 0.5–2 m high; evergreen. Stems flattened towards apices, with sparse, clear to ginger simple and stellate hairs when young, glabrescent. Leaves opposite, not peltate; lamina oblanceolate or obovate, rarely rhombic-ovate, 17–160 mm long, 5–70 mm wide; base cuneate to weakly attenuate; margins strongly dentate with 4–7 teeth, each 2–9 mm long; tip acute, short acuminate or rarely obtuse; venation penniveined, comprising 11–17 lateral veins per side of midrib and reticulate interlateral veins; upper surface without granular inclusions; lower surface pale green, interlateral venation well developed, with sparse, clear to ginger stellate hairs when young, glabrescent. Stamens 40–60. Fruit subglobose, 5–7 mm long, 8–10 mm diam., with sparse to dense, yellow stellate hairs, scattered yellow sessile glands and simple, echinate processes 0.5–2 mm long.
