Shrub or small tree to 8 m high; evergreen. Stems ± rounded towards apices, with sparse to dense, clear, simple and stellate hairs when young, glabrescent. Leaves alternate or rarely subopposite, not peltate; lamina obovate, orbicular, ovate or rhombic-ovate, 10–170 mm long, 5–80 mm wide; base cordate, cuneate or rounded; margins generally entire, but sometimes weakly dentate with 6–10 teeth up to 2 mm long; tip acute, short acuminate or rounded; venation ± palmiveined, comprising 1 or 2 lateral veins from the lamina base, an additional 5–7 lateral veins further up the midrib and with reticulate interlateral veins; upper surface without granular inclusions; lower surface silver-green, interlateral venation well developed, velutinous with dense clear ± peltate scales, simple biseriate or stellate hairs (or a combination thereof) and dense yellow sessile glands, indumentum persistent. Stamens 50–60. Fruit subglobose, 4–8 mm long, 5.5–6 mm diam., with dense, orange sessile glands, hairs and echinate processes absent.

They are dark green above and paler underneath. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants. Male flowers are very small and cream. They are about 0.3 cm across. They are along stalks about 5-7.5 cm long. Female flowers are white and along shorter stalks. The fruit are dry, woody capsules with 2-3 lobes. They are about 0.5-0.7 cm across. They have a mealy yellow powder over them when ripe.
