Cultivation

Origin: in Ames, Iowa, by the Pomology Section, Iowa Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1921. Parentage unknown; from mixed seed; selected in 1918; tested as Ames 419. Tree: vigorous; productive. Apparently no longer being propagated. Fruit: size medium; skin greenish-yellow or striped yellow with lively red, resembling Gravenstein; flesh crisp, tender, sprightly subacid, pleasant, good to very good; season October to January.
