Origin: in Excelsior, Minn., by the Univ. of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm. Introd. in 1943. Parentage unknown; selected in 1917; selected for further testing in 1927; tested as Minn. 993. Tree: hardy; vigorous; resistant to cedar rust but only slightly less susceptible than Wealthy to apple scab and fire blight. Fruit: large, 3 inches in diam.; skin medium red, lightly striped with darker red; flesh yellowish, medium coarse, medium tender, medium juicy; flavor mildly subacid; quality excellent for dessert purposes; season of use November to April.
