Cultivation

Origin: in East Malling, Kent, England by F.H. Alston, East Malling Res. Sta. Introduced in 1981. Worcester Pearmain × Starkspur Golden Delicious. Tree: regular, heavy cropping; precocious; compact growth habit; requires little pruning; flowers 2 days after Cox’s Orange Pippin; styles and pollen resistant to low temperatures (5 °C). Fruit: medium, 65 to 70 mm; color distinctive bright red, predominantly red on a yellow/ green background; skin finish good; skin texture good; flesh crisp and juice quality good; best suited for home orchards; ripe in early October; storage life short.
