Origin: in Grass Valley, Calif., by Joel Bierwagen. Introd. in 1960. Bud mutation of Delicious. Tree: vigorous; upright; spreading if trained; hardy; productive, bears regularly; resistant to bacterial bark disease. Fruit: large, 12 to 14 oz; resembles Delicious; skin solid red, no striping; flesh white, slight greenish tint; texture finer grained than Starking Delicious, 2 to 7 Sept. in Grass Valley.
