Cultivation

Origin: in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, by Canada Dept. Agr., Res. Sta. Introd. in 1964. Crimson Beauty × Melba; selected in 1944 by D.A. Blair; tested as Ottawa 342, early testing by Blair, tested later and released by Lloyd S.P. Spangelo. Tree: vigorous; hardy; bears biennially; branching angle narrow. Fruit: larger than Caravel; roundish-conic; skin attractively red striped over a yellow ground color; flesh white, tender, flavor and general dessert qualities equal to Melba; ripens 3 to 4 days after Crimson Beauty and 7 to 10 days before Melba; developed primarily for eastern Canada.
